Over the past few months we have put out a call for new writers, and our calls have been answered. We would like to extend an enthusiastic welcome to our two new contributing writers, Susan Neul and Mark Hanford.
Susan moved to Becket full time in 2022 after raising her two daughters in Summit, New Jersey. She had a long international career in finance, and, now retired, finds herself loving the outdoor life of skiing all winter long and hiking and gardening in the summer. Susan, who has already written several articles for us on trees, porcupines, and, in this issue, goldenrod, is an avid nature enthusiast, so will continue to primarily focus on hiking, gardening, flora, and fauna.
Mark, who wrote the article on the McNerney Family in the August edition of the Becket Beat, will take up the Becket history mantle. Mark is a native of Berkshire County and moved to Becket in 1976 to build his family’s home on McNerney Road. Mark joined the Becket Fire Department in 1978 and served as Chief for five years, retiring in 2019, and still serves as a firefighter to this day. He was also a select board member for three years. Mark loves to share his knowledge of Becket history and is well known for his ability to spin a captivating yarn.
We look forward to many more articles from both Susan and Mark.
