Becket Arts Center Showcases Art, Music, and Community Programs This April

The Becket Arts Center is ushering in spring with a dynamic April lineup that blends wellness, hands-on creativity, live performance, and visual art. Weekly yoga sessions continue to provide opportunities for relaxation and mindfulness, while a range of workshops invite participants to explore new skills, including a beginner-friendly needle felting class and a multi-week watercolor series that builds foundational painting techniques. Mid-month highlights include a performance by the Mary Ann McSweeney Jazz Trio, offering an evening of globally inspired music. Later in the month, a “Pollinator Paradise” workshop gives practical guidance on creating pollinator-friendly gardens at home. Throughout April, the Becket Washington School Art Show (April 16–26) will fill the gallery with work by local students, celebrating young artists from the community. Stay up to date with all of our events by checking our online calendar: becketartscenter.org/events.

Find your Joy at the Library in April!

April at the Athenaeum brings an appreciation mashup where we will celebrate National Poetry Month and National Library Week, which carries with it the theme: Find your Joy! All month long stop by the Athenaeum to enjoy “at your leisure” poetry activities that invite you to write a poem in honor of the joy libraries, books, reading, words, etc., bring to your life. Submit a poem you’ve written via one of these activities to be entered to win a $50 gift card to a local establishment of your choice. Also be on the lookout for our annual Poem in your Pocket displays throughout town—this year will include a few submissions from local poets, young and old! On April 9 join us for a 6:30 pm screening of Free for All: The Public Library, a documentary film which examines “how public libraries shaped a nation and remain a beloved sanctuary for Americans today.” Lastly, teens are invited to find a little joy at the library on Friday, April 17, at 6 pm for a movie-and-craft night curated by local high school senior Nolan Raymer as a part of his National Honor Society service project. As always, all programs are… free for all!
