March 2024

Five Opportunities to Vote in 2024

by Robin Mathiesen, Town Clerk

In 2024 all Becket registered voters will have five opportunities to cast ballots for local, state or federal elections. Below is a list of the dates, times and locations for voting. Four elections will be held at Becket Town Hall. The Becket Annual Town Meeting takes place at the Becket Washington School. Mark your calendars now.

  • Tuesday, March 5: MA Presidential Party Primary – polls open 7am to 9pm
  • Saturday, May 11: Annual Town Meeting – Becket Washington School, 7pm
  • Saturday, May 18: Annual Town Election – polls open 10am to 7pm
  • Tuesday, September 3: MA State Primary – polls open 7am to 9pm
  • Tuesday, November 5: General Election for US President, US Congress and MA State Offices – polls open 7am to 9pm

The deadline to register to vote or change parties is 10 days before any election or town meeting. Voter registration can be done online (mass.gov) or in person at Town Hall. If you prefer to vote by mail, the deadline has passed for the March 5th primary, but an application form is available on line (sec.state.ma.us). Just complete it and mail it or drop it off at Town Hall to vote by mail in
future elections.

For the March 5th primary, registered Becket in-person voters will be asked their party preference; vote by mail residents will already have noted their party preference. There are three party ballots: Democrat, Republican and Libertarian. But here’s the confusing part: you will see candidates on the ballot that have already dropped out of the race. Please just go ahead and choose your candidate of choice.
