Becket/Washington Community Resources Forum on May 4th

By Marcia Parnell

“Building a Stronger Community” is the theme of the Town Forum scheduled for Monday, May 4th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Becket Washington School cafetorium. The Forum is organized and presented by seven local organizations with distinct missions, but united by a shared goal of getting the word out about local needs and potential resources that residents might support or utilize if they had more information about them.

The Forum’s sponsors are the Becket Arts Center, Becket Athenaeum, Becket Food Pantry and Emergency Fund, Becket Washington Friends & Neighbors (BWFAN), Becket Washington PTO, and the town clerks of Becket and Washington.

Each sponsor will staff a table and provide information on local resources particular to its work. In addition, State Senator Paul Mark and Representative Leigh Davis will be there to share their work in the Legislature and with the Governor to address the unique needs and challenges of funding infrastructure and other costly projects in the Berkshires and how residents might help reinforce and support the need.

And did you know the Becket Washington school is at risk of closure due to declining enrollment? Principal Mary Kay McCloskey will be at the forum to share the details and what’s required in order to keep its doors open.

Food and drinks will be served, child care will be available, and musical entertainment will be provided by local talents Dave Bacon and Simon Guthrie.
