In addition to snacks, lunch, and bingo, the Becket Senior Group—which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm in the Community Room at Town Hall—is adding a monthly elder-care nutritionist visit and chair exercise to its regular activities. “It’s all part of a stay-active-and-healthy effort for local seniors who may be challenged to prepare healthy meals or incorporate regular exercise and daily movement into their routines,” said Linda Shaw, co-leader of the group. Chair exercise will run from 10:30 to 11 am and for now will be conducted online or by DVD. Anyone interested in leading the class is eligible for a stipend and asked to call Linda Shaw or Paula Bergeron at (413) 623-5934 ext. 127.
While the group is known by many long-time locals as the Council on Aging, Paula Bergeron, co-chair, explains, “We’ve adopted the name Becket Senior Group to better describe who we serve.”
Transportation may be available for those who need it. Any senior is welcome and encouraged to participate in any or all activities that interest them—snacks, lunch, exercise, or bingo.
