Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 27th, as the Becket Family Fun Festival transforms North Becket Park into a hub of community celebration. The second annual event, hosted by the Becket Parks and Recreation Committee (BPRC), runs from noon to 5 pm at the park across from Becket Washington Elementary School, with Sunday, September 28th, as the rain date.
Building on last year’s success, this year’s festival promises something for everyone. Families can enjoy an expanded roster of children’s activities, including carnival games, face painting, and an always-popular pet parade where four-legged community members take center stage. The adjacent pickleball court will remain active throughout the day, and bean bag baseball will offer an accessible activity that brings all ages together.
“It’s an opportunity for people to get together, have fun, and meet new neighbors,” said Mo Vandesteene, BPRC chair. “It will be a great community gathering.”
The musical entertainment lineup showcases local talent, opening with the Becket Praise Team and featuring local favorites The Ladies Diane and Derek Rogers. In an exciting collaboration the Becket Arts Center (BAC) will present an original children’s theater performance created specifically for the festival.
New additions this year include a raffle and 50/50 drawing, adding an element of anticipation to the festivities. Winners will take home prizes donated by local businesses.
The festival encourages a relaxed, picnic atmosphere—bring your chairs, blankets, and homemade lunches to make a full afternoon of it. For those preferring to purchase food, both the Neon Newt and Route 8 Pub will offer carryout options, and additional food will be available at the park.
Local businesses interested in supporting the festival can become sponsors through monetary donations or by providing gift certificates for the raffle. Individual donations are also welcomed, any surplus funds after expenses being donated to the BAC.
The event’s success depends on community volunteers who help as greeters, parking assistants, game hosts, and cleanup crews. It’s another way residents can contribute to making the day memorable for everyone.
